Tips to prepare for your upcoming photoshoot
One question that I am often asked is "what should I wear for my photo session?"
I recommend wearing comfortable clothing that makes you feel your best. I find that confidence is key with any portrait session and I encourage people to wear items that reflect their personality and personal style. When in doubt, black, white, or gray is an easy and effective way to create a timeless look that will never go out of style. But, this doesn't mean it has to be boring or stale. You can always toss in a pop of color or pattern in small doses by throwing on a scarf, tie, hat, or bright accessories. If you are not comfortable with adding any of these to your attire, a blanket or other colorful props are also a great way to add some flare to your look. Keep in mind to wear something that compliments your surroundings. Feel free to look for inspiration on the internet and if you want to share your images and ideas with me, that will give me a clear and precise visual of the exact look you are wanting to achieve.

Set yourself and your family up for success
Remember, this isn't just taking pictures, this session should be a fun event in and of itself. Leave the pressure behind. Relax, make sure everyone is fed, give yourself plenty of time to get ready, and come ready to enjoy the moment while we capture beautiful memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. During the session, it's always best to just relax and not worry too much about how you, or anyone else looks, just leave that job to me. I promise, I will make sure the details are covered. Your job is just to have fun! And please don't be embarrassed if someone in your party has a melt down. I have seen it all over the years, and my motto is to "just go with it" I have learned that if you give them space, and focus on something else, they always come back around. Often, it is helpful to bring things that you know will be comforting or useful for someone who might be having an "off day." A little snack for you, a favorite stuffed animal or toy for a kiddo, a treat for the dog, or even your husband's favorite drink can go a long way. And if you feel that that there is a good possibility that someone might not be enthusiastic about being photographed, just talk to me. We can work together to find a creative solution. Often, all it takes is the ideal location that will boost the chances of a successful shoot. Your family's favorite ice cream joint, playground, or park is perfectly acceptable. And, if you want to get really intentional, find a location that has a special meaning to you or your family. Often, it is the setting that can make or break a photoshoot.

Speaking of being intentional...
If you have a clear vision of what you would ultimately like to do with these photographs once they are taken and printed, please share this with me. My background is in design, so if I know that these images are being used in a particular way or in a special place in your home, I can keep that in mind during the shoot, to make sure that they will fit perfectly to enhance your space. This will also open up the opportunity for my creativity to flow. I can design an original image collage, or take the shots in such a way that will add a unique and interesting look to your walls. The more intentional we can be, the better the finished product will be. Even if you need to send me pictures of your space, or hire me to come into your home and consult you on how and where to display your portraits, in the end, I just want you to be happy with the result and proud to show off your beautiful memories for years, and generations to come.
